Here are some things I’ve been loving this month and year in my photography business. Hope it helps and inspires you!
Video:
1. Society6 – Amazing website where you can easily set it up as an online store for your work! You upload your original artwork, choose what format you would like it to be available as (framed prints, pillows, t-shirt, mugs, etc..) and pick your price and vola! It is live and ready to sell. Society6 takes care of the final payment, receipt, making of product and delivery. You just set up a PayPal account with them and you make money as your work sells!.
Here is my profile for example: http://society6.com/michellegillatt
2. Equipment Rentals – A great way to test out equipment before committing to the big purchase of expensive camera gear.
3. Pinterest – No new revelation here, but it is an awesome source for brainstorming, inspiration and creating vision boards! As I collaborate with other businesses on upcoming photoshoots and videos, I need to create a strong storyline and visually appealing ideas to make sure the entire creative team is on the same page.
4. Camera Mug – Super cute gift idea for any friend or loved one who likes photography and coffee (or any warm drink!). You can search in Amazon and find lots of cute ones for an affordable price.
5. A Good Planner – I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s seriously a life savor for me. I’m one of those people who have to write things down to feel like it’s officially on my ‘To Do List’ and calendar. You will be looking at this probably everyday for the next year, so make sure it’s cute! Also make sure you love the layout. Personally, I love big square blocks of the whole month to write in and a place for notes for each month, so those are must haves for me.
My planner is from the Sugar Paper line from Target
6. Custom Camera Straps – Tutorial on how to make this coming soon! Super easy and affordable way to add personality to your camera gear (in a stylish way). You can also get them at a good price on Etsy.
7. Fashion App – Since ‘what do I wear’ is one of the most frequently asked questions by my clients, I have started a new series on my Instagram account where every Friday I do a segment of “Fashion Friday” and post an outfit that would photograph well and explain why. The app that helps me create these looks just how I want them is called Polyvore.
8. Travel Size Camera Bag – I’ve been doing a lot of traveling recently and this Tamrac Bag has been a life savor. I wanted something more compact than my regular bag that holds everything and the kitchen sink. However, I wanted to make sure my equipment was still safe so this was my solution and I loved it! I just got it at Walmart. I also recommend getting a camera insert (like Roma’s ONA) to make any bag of yours into a camera bag.
9. 2TB Western Digital External Hard Drive – I would be lost without more space! Shooting in raw and video quickly takes up a lot of storage space and I love the price point and durability on this hard drive. I got mine at BestBuy.
10. My Photography’s 2 Year Anniversary!!!!!
March 18th 2015 marks two years of me officially being in business….YAY!!!! Before I go on a huge emotional ramble, I just want to say thank you for your support….yes YOU! If you are reading this then you have had a role in my photography journey and I can’t thank you enough for every minute of your time that you have looked at my work. I wouldn’t be able to do what I love without you. Can’t wait to see what this third year has in store!
